Lanercost Priory: Photo Stop

This Augustinian priory in Cumbria was built in the 12th century. It was subject to frequent Scottish raids including attack by William Wallace and Robert Bruce. And King Edward I was a guest here on a number of occasions.

Wanting to get an early start on our day, we arrived at Lanercost Priory before it opened. While I would have loved to see inside and learn more, one can only see and do so much. This land is so full of history - when you arrive and find locked doors, one can simply drive a few miles down the road to another historical treasure. Since Hadrian's Wall is nearby, that is exactly what we did.
