Kindermusik Redux

Jonah took Kindermusik classes with KinderVillage in Cary, NC on and off from about 18 months to 4 years of age and Elisabeth took a couple of classes when she was two. They have great introductory music classes for the little guys as well as piano exploration and other creative options for kindergarten ages. For older kids there is piano, recorder and guitar lessons.

It has been two years since my kids took a Kindermusik class. This is solely due to the fact that we moved too far away for it to be a feasible option for regular participation. But they do offer "playdates" once a month. So, today, we took a trip into Cary for one of those classes with the most beloved of all music teachers, Mrs. Susan. She taught both of my kids in the past. Ms. Susan has great energy and always keeps a smile on her face even when your kid is totally not going with the flow. I honestly don't know how she does it everyday. Thankfully, God has seen fit to place people with her unquenchable optimism and energy in our midst.

There was a bit of a St. Patrick's Day theme going on today so we danced an Irish Jig and were introduced to a Celtic harp - the kids even got to finger a crescendo on the strings. At the end, they got to toss around a Leprechaun in a parachute - parachute play is always a hit.

Total Recall

I have to post about this, because my children have amazed me with their ability to remember things. The other day I had to take something to the post office and decided to go out to a new library and stop at a post office along the way. After pulling out of the post office, Jonah says, "this is the same way we went to go to Selah's birthday party." At first I couldn't tell whose name he was saying; I thought he was saying Serra. Then I remember Selah's party and in fact Serra was there too. We had only traveled that way one other time and that was it. I was blown away.

Then I took the kids to a Kindermusik class for the first time this summer. In the spring, I would take Elisabeth one day a week while Jonah was in preschool. Since we have moved, I approached the area from a slightly different direction, but the building is located near these 4 large radio towers. As we were sitting at an intersection less than a mile away, Elisabeth says, "Look mommy, class." It took me a minute to realize she was associating the towers (that we could clearly see at this point) to the location of the Kindermusik class. I was amazed.

Then this weekend, we went camping in the mountains. We saw lots of RV's including the illustrative rental RV's offered by Cruise America. (The kids would shout "RV!" nearly every time we would see one). On the last day, Jonah pointed out a Cruise America RV and Kelly commented that it looked to be the same model we rented last year. I asked Kelly whether he remembered what was painted on the side of the one we rented. As we were trying to recall this minor detail, Jonah shouts, "Balloons!" What he said sounded right for some reason as I seemed to recall a picture of a big hot air balloon on the side. Well, in fact, there were several hot air balloons just as Jonah said. Here's the proof:

Elisabeth Starts Kindermusik Class

Jonah went to Kindermusik classes from the time he was 8 months old until Elisabeth was born. Poor Elisabeth is just now getting her turn. I took her to a preview class last week to see how she liked it.

As you can see she rather enjoyed it and mommy did too. So we signed up and today was her first full class. This was her favorite part.

Two Year Molars and A Prophetic Dream

Today, Jonah went to Kindermusik class. He normally really loves it, but today he hardly participated. Even the instructor commented that she could hardly get a smile out of him. At one point he even stood up a and hugged me and put his head on my shoulder. We're thinking his teeth are bothering him - he's getting his 2-year molars already. Poor Baby.

Also, last night I had a dream and in it was a little blond headed girl - lighter blond than Jonah's and her hair was curly. We'll see if it's prophetic at all on how Jonah's sister will look.
