We visited Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam, CT.

The castle was the home of William Gillette, a famous film and stage actor during the era of silent film. He was particularly known for his role as Sherlock Holmes. William Gillette was also a stage manager and set designer and used his knowledge in designing his retirement home which is set high on a hill above the Connecticut River overlooking an historic ferry.

What we saw of the grounds were beautiful. I wish we had more time during our visit to explore the trails and the surrounding countryside.
