Random Update

Jonah is under the weather today. His temperature got up to 102.3 at one point. He has pretty much been laying in the bed watching movies and me trying to get him to eat a little here and there and drink. His temperature had come down to 100.3 this afternoon and he's napping now. Poor baby! This morning he came over with a frown and sat down in the floor kind of whimpering. I asked him what's wrong and he said he wanted to go to the doctor. I asked "Why? Is something hurting?" And he grabs his throat. Post nasal drip is a bear in the morning to be sure. He has been surprising me with how articulate he is these days.

On Monday we went to Chick-fil-a for lunch and a young man in army fatigues held the door for us. As we were passing by, Jonah stopped and looked up at him and asked, "Are you a captain?" The young man replied, "No, I'm a Sargent. Can you say 'Sargent'?" And Jonah said, "Sargent." We thanked him and moved on. Interesting little interaction. He's already getting to the point where he can hold a conversation with a perfect stranger - LOL!

Here's another random thing that happened this week with Elisabeth. I was standing in our hallway doing laundry - moving clothes around - you know how it goes - it's kind of tight squeeze when I have the folding doors open. Anyway, I came around the corner to put some clothes in the wash and there she was in my path as usual. This was probably the first time that I said, "Beep, Beep." And don't you know it she went "Beep, beep" right back. She can also say "Zebra" but it sounds more like "Wee-bra." She loves watching animal shows and Barney. She literally bounces up and down when she seas Barney - "Barney goes to the Zoo" is her favorite movie right now.

Okay, well, pray the rest of us don't get whatever it is Jonah has. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Grammie and Papaw!

Special thanks to Grammie & Papaw who were able to come up last week from Florida to support us during this life altering event. It was a real blessing to have them here as caretakers for Jonah. Jonah warmed up quickly to his grandparents with whom he was previously familiar primarily via Skype. They all had a great time together and Jonah barely noticed we were away. They brought Jonah to the hospital to visit all three days we were there. It was a major burden off my shoulders and allowed me to focus on baby Elisabeth and on recuperating.
Jonah also learned some new words and now actually will say yes to questions instead of no all the time. He also learned to say "nasty" which he pronounces 'na-thy' and makes a special face just for this word. Apparently, he got that from Grammie who kept telling our dog Toby he was nasty for eating paper towels and other things he shouldn't. Thanks again Grammie and Papaw. Oh and Jonah loves his early birthday present. We took a walk the other evening and daddy pushed Jonah on his bike and mommy pushed baby in the stroller. It was an interesting feeling taking a walk with two instead of one.

More Cheese Please

Jonah was watching Sesame Street this morning and they started talking about cheese. Well, he loves cheese so he comes into the kitchen and starts saying cheese. Well I kind of ingnored him to see if he would forget about it. He follows me down the hall and says "cheese" and then "pease." We have been trying to get him to say please for a month. Of course one piece wasn't enough so I asked him to say please for more and he did - it even started to sound more like "please" than "pease." I guess now we can start working on saying "Thank you."

Toddler Talk

This morning Jonah learned a new word. Actually I have heard him say it maybe once or twice before but today he was very consistent with it. Here you go:

Other new words this week are "munny" for bunny and "mill" for milk, as well as "biper" for diaper.

Ever Expanding Toddler Vocabulary

Today, I went to Target and as we were checking out the cashier gave me a sticker for Jonah. Jonah repeated "dider" for sticker and for the first time ever said thank you. I kind of missed it as I was making sure everything was ringing up accurately. But I heard the cashier say "your welcome" and I asked her did he say "Thank you." And she said that it sounded like it to her. And then later we were home and out in the back yard with the dogs. I was trying to get the dogs to run around a bit and get rid of some of their energy and said "Run, Leto, run." Then Jonah says "runnnn" and starts running. (He loves it when the dogs run around and get all worked up.) Also, this evening, I was talking on the phone to my mom and was trying to get Jonah to say, "Hi, Grammie" and at one point he said "memie." Unfortunately it was too low or mistimed so Grammie didn't get a chance to hear it. Maybe next time Grammie. So I guess we're going to hear new things daily now as he learns new words. How fun!

Word Discovery

Jonah has recently developed a new interest in books. I brought home some new ones for him from the consignment sale last week and some even have little folding tabs. In the past, he would have been more interested in tearing off the little tabs and just turning pages. But lately, I have noticed him really studying the pictures on the books.

It probably has something to do with his recent language development. He has really started to get that everything has a word that describes it. Now besides "daddy," "doggy," "ball," and "mommy". He says or tries to say flower "wower", cat "dat", car "dar", sticker "dider", fish "wish", and so on. He is more likely to repeat something after hearing it once or twice than waiting until he's heard it 20 times. These pictures show him "reading" a book or at least studying it intently and the second shows him looking up in the sky and saying "wane" for plane. He can also say moon.

The Moon - A Big Ball

Tonight, Jonah went with Daddy to Target to get Mommy a birthday present. When he saw the big, bright moon in the sky he pointed and said "Ball." Kelly corrected him and said "moon." Then he realized his mistake and said "You know I guess it is a really BIG ball."
